Recap: “Are You Qualified?”

“ This saying is trustworthy: ‘If anyone aspires to be an overseer, he desires a noble work.’” - 1 Timothy 3:1 (CSB)

We had a sweet time of worship from Arlen, Emily, + JB and after they were done Stacie gave us our announcements for the night.

This week we studied 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and T left us with three main points:

  1. it is good to lead (v1): A leader, or a bishop, is an honorable position. The position of a “bishop” is to be an overseer.

  2. Be the person others will follow (2a): Leaders don’t always hold a title, but they have influence. The qualifications for leadership aren’t about skillset or giftedness. God often uses the unexpected or “least qualified” person in the eyes of man.

  3. One must adhere to the list (v2b-7): blameless, one woman man, temperate, sober minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous, rules his own house well, not a novice, and a good testimony.

I know it looks like a lot but I encourage you to keep an eye out on the media tab for when this message is posted because T really breaks down these verses and helps us to understand them better.

After T taught, we had some time for fellowship! We hope you’ll join us on a Friday soon!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE @ THE BRIDGE — "Are You Qualified?"

"This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop,
he desires a good work."
1 Timothy 3:1 NKJV

Are you qualified? Today, all jobs that you can apply for require a person to have certain qualifications before they can be considered for the position. Are you patient, easy to work with, a good listener, one who is willing to go above and beyond the given task, etc? Just as there are qualifications or standards in the office, there are also requirements to be a leader in God's church. Join us tonight at 7:30PM in the Multi-Purpose Room, as we continue in our series through 1 Timothy learning about the qualifications of a church leader. Bring your Bible, invite someone that doesn't know Jesus, and we'll see you there!

COME AWAY & PRAY — TONIGHT @ 6PM, MANHATTAN BEACH PIER

Do you have a heart to pray? Would you consider yourself a prayer warrior? Jesus tells His disciples the significance of "coming away" from the busyness of life, and we'd do well to do the same! Join us tonight, June 18th @ 6:00PM at the Manhattan Beach Pier volleyball courts, to pray for the needs of those in the ministry as well as our community and beyond.

Recap: God's Family, God's Church

We are always happy to be in the house of the Lord, especially on a Friday night in the Multi-Purpose Room at church (Calvary Chapel South Bay).

Jonny gave us a word of encouragement out of 1 Corinthians 13, “LOVE is patient…” what a great reminder and challenge!

Time to shake hands with a neighbor, say hello and make a new friend. We hope everyone’s experience at The Bridge is welcoming.

To continue our series in 1 Timothy, we had one of our leaders, Arlen, speak on chapter 2 verses 8-15. He did a great job of explaining how God has an ORDER to the way He positions man and woman within the church.
